Santorini’s transportation network
Santorini is one of the most fascinating islands of Greece. Every corner of the island is filled with beautiful sights and breathtaking landscapes. Most of these tourist attractions weren’t reachable by car until recently. Santorini’s transportation and road network has been improving constantly over the last years while there’s undergoing roadwork that will contribute for a flawless Santorini experience for all visitors and locals.
Arguably the greatest recent introduction was the new road that connects Oia, Fira, Karterados, Monolithos and the Santorini airport. The brand new road launched in 2019 and drastically decreased the time needed to reach Santorini’s most visited villages. The new tarmac really does offer a smooth ride and an overall great driver’s experience to our visitors. Safety and comfort is always important for everyone.
The authorities of Santorini are preparing for the 2021 summer season by reconstructing many existing roads, like the main road from Karterados to Pyrgos, modernising about 20 road kilometres. Finally the reinforcement of the winding road of Athinios port is another considerable improvement of the island’s transportation network; being a great relief for both locals and travellers during the busy summer months, considering the very recent expansion of the port and the high traffic during the summer months.
